How to Help Yourself Out of Depression

Small steps to healing yourself.

Depression – things “pressing” down on you from past. Depression tends to be worrying about past issues, anxiety is worry about future issues.

You wake up with that dread, the no energy, the wanting to hide under the blanket. The fear of facing the day is intense. A simple shower may seem insurmountable.

What to do? Start by reaching out to one person, someone that is needing help. Maybe a local senior needs some help shopping, shoveling a walkway, just having a tea and company. Or if you prefer animals, head to the nearest shelter and sign up for dog walking or volunteering.

How does this help? by getting out of your own mind of fixing yourself! You are not broken, your body is telling you it needs rest and healing, you didn’t listen the first few times, so it takes it to a physical level to make you do it. By reaching out to another living thing, and giving some love to that, you will in turn feel yourself getting lighter, more engaged. When we sit or lay around just worrying, thinking, absorbed into ourselves, it does not help. When we do something good for someone, it helps us reconnect with our soul, our empathy, humankind!

Once you shift your attention to outside yourself, you will slowly see the transformation, and soon, you will be able to take another small step in your healing process.
